Champions League Quarter-Final Second Legs: Betting Preview (April 14 & 15, 2026)

Tuesday 14 April: Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona (Estadio Metropolitano) | Liverpool vs PSG (Anfield) — both 21:00 CET
Wednesday 15 April: Arsenal vs Sporting CP (Emirates Stadium) | Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid (Allianz Arena) — both 21:00 CET

The first legs delivered. Bayern won at the Bernabéu. Atlético won at Camp Nou with Barcelona reduced to ten men. Arsenal ground out a 1-0 in Lisbon. PSG beat Liverpool 2-0 at the Parc des Princes. Every tie has shape — but none is finished. Here’s what the second legs set up and where the betting value sits.

First Leg Results Summary

First leg Result Who leads What the trailing team needs
Sporting CP vs Arsenal 0–1 Arsenal Sporting need to score at the Emirates and not concede two
Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich 1–2 Bayern Real Madrid need to score twice at the Allianz Arena without conceding
Barcelona vs Atlético Madrid 0–2 Atlético Barcelona need to win by three or win by two and score three+
PSG vs Liverpool 2–0 PSG Liverpool need to win by three, or win by two without PSG scoring

Tuesday 14 April

Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona — Estadio Metropolitano (21:00 CET)

The tie of the round. Atlético went to Camp Nou and won 2–0 after Barcelona were reduced to ten men — Julián Álvarez’s free kick and a second from Alexander Sørloth giving Diego Simeone his first ever win at Camp Nou in 15 years of trying. Barcelona now need to win by three at the Metropolitano, or score three and win by two. Against Atlético at their fortress, that is an almost impossible ask.

The Metropolitano under Simeone with a 2-0 lead is one of the most defensively organised situations in European football. Atlético won’t attack recklessly — they’ll sit deep, absorb, and hit on the counter. Barcelona will have to chase the game from minute one, which means gaps, which means Julián Álvarez. The Argentine has scored 14 Champions League goals in his last 17 matches. If Barcelona commit men forward, Atlético will punish them.

Barcelona’s La Liga form has been strong — they’re arguably the best team in Europe on a good day. But this isn’t a good situation. The red card in the first leg removed their most important tactical asset (defensive security), and coming from 2-0 down away at the Metropolitano requires a perfect performance. One they’re unlikely to produce.

Betting angle: Atlético to progress is the structural pick — strong favourites at this point and justifiably so. For the match itself, under 3.5 goals and Atlético draw no bet offer the most sensible coverage. Barcelona will attack but Atlético defend. Don’t expect an open game.

Market Selection Angle
To qualify Atlético Madrid 2-0 lead at home — extremely strong position
Match result (DNB) Atlético draw no bet Protection if Barcelona equalise on the night
Total goals Under 3.5 Simeone won’t open up with a 2-0 aggregate lead
Anytime scorer Julián Álvarez 14 UCL goals in last 17 matches — clinical on the counter

Liverpool vs PSG — Anfield (21:00 CET)

PSG won 2–0 in Paris. Liverpool need three at Anfield without PSG scoring, or two if they can keep it goalless. Anfield on a European night is one of football’s great occasions — the atmosphere will be extraordinary, and Liverpool will pour forward from the first whistle.

The problem is PSG’s defence has been excellent this season. They conceded just once against Chelsea over two legs in the round of 16. These two sides met in last season’s round of 16 too, where each team won their home leg 1-0 before PSG went through on penalties. Liverpool know the formula, but PSG have seen it before.

Arne Slot’s side are second in goals allowed per 90 minutes in this competition — they defend well. But they’re also away from home with a two-goal deficit, which means abandoning that defensive structure entirely. PSG’s transition game — Kvaratskhelia in particular — will be lethal against an Anfield that has to commit men forward.

The Anfield atmosphere can swing games. Liverpool have produced memorable European comebacks here before. But PSG are the defending champions, defensively resolute, and tactically prepared for exactly this scenario.

Betting angle: PSG to qualify is the value pick — available at odds that don’t fully reflect how well-set they are. On the match itself, both teams to score is the structural bet — Liverpool must score to have any hope, and PSG’s counter-threat means a clean sheet for Anfield is unlikely if the game opens up. Over 2.5 goals is also strong.

Market Selection Angle
To qualify PSG 2-0 lead; defending champions; won here last season
Both teams to score Yes Liverpool must score; PSG dangerous on the counter
Total goals Over 2.5 Open game guaranteed — Liverpool have no choice
Anytime scorer Kvaratskhelia Lethal in transition; Anfield will leave space

Wednesday 15 April

Arsenal vs Sporting CP — Emirates Stadium (21:00 CET)

Arsenal won 1–0 in Lisbon. The Emirates second leg is theirs to manage. Sporting need to score and keep it tight — not impossible, but a significant ask against a defensively organised Arsenal side at a ground where Arteta’s team have lost just once in European competition during his tenure.

The Viktor Gyökeres subplot continues — the Arsenal striker who left Sporting last summer returns to face his former club for the second time in a week, this time in north London. He scored the first leg winner. The noise from the Emirates crowd when he gets on the ball will be remarkable.

Sporting’s route back into this tie requires goals, which means they’ll have to open up — and Arsenal’s counter-attack, led by Saka and Martinelli, punishes exactly that. Arsenal’s defensive record with David Raya in goal has been exceptional — 20 clean sheets this season across all competitions.

The injury situation bears watching before kick-off. Saliba, Gabriel and Merino were already out for the first leg — if that group remains depleted, Sporting have more hope than the aggregate suggests. Pedro Gonçalves has scored four goals in his last three matches and is the player most likely to cause problems.

Betting angle: Arsenal to qualify is the banker of the round. At the Emirates with a one-goal lead, they only need a draw. For the match, Arsenal to win and under 3.5 goals is the cleanest combination — Arteta will set up to be solid first and leave Sporting to chase. A 1-0 or 2-0 Arsenal win is the most likely outcome.

Market Selection Angle
To qualify Arsenal Home, 1-0 up, need only a draw — the banker of the week
Match result Arsenal win Arteta at home in European knockouts — exceptional record
Total goals Under 3.5 Arsenal will be conservative; Sporting must chase
Anytime scorer Gyökeres Scored the first leg winner; motivated at his old club’s ground

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid — Allianz Arena (21:00 CET)

The tie of the tournament. Bayern won 2–1 at the Bernabéu — a genuine statement performance — and now host Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena where they’ve been dominant all season. Real Madrid need to score twice in Munich without conceding. Against a Bayern side that has lost just once in 2026, that is a formidable challenge.

Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé is the UCL’s top scorer with 14 goals this season and is the reason no tie involving Madrid is ever truly over. One moment from Mbappé — a free kick, a run in behind, a counter-attack — changes the entire equation. Real Madrid have an extraordinary history of European comebacks and Bayern know better than anyone that Los Blancos cannot be written off until the final whistle.

But Bayern’s numbers this season are extraordinary. They lead the Champions League in goals per 90 minutes (3.10), lost just once all calendar year, and won their last three matches by an aggregate of 11–3. Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Thomas Müller are all fit. The Allianz Arena is as hostile a European venue as exists outside Anfield.

This is the tie where prediction markets are currently most split. Bayern are clear favourites to progress — their aggregate lead and home venue make them the structural pick. But Real Madrid at 1-0 down in the second leg is a different proposition to Real Madrid at 1-0 down anywhere else in football.

Betting angle: Bayern to qualify at odds that reflect their aggregate lead and home form. For the match, over 2.5 goals is the strong selection — neither side plays conservatively, Kane is in form, and Mbappé will be asked to carry Madrid’s entire attacking burden. Both teams to score is a near-certainty given the tactical requirements of both sides.

Market Selection Angle
To qualify Bayern Munich 1-0 up, at home, best attack in the tournament
Both teams to score Yes Real Madrid must score; Bayern won’t sit back at 1-0
Total goals Over 2.5 Bayern avg 3.10 goals/90 in UCL; Madrid need to attack
Anytime scorer Kane Scored in second leg vs Atalanta; clinical at home

Semi-Final Picture

If the favourites hold on, the semi-final bracket looks like this:

  • Semi-final 1 (28/29 April): PSG vs Bayern Munich
  • Semi-final 2 (29/30 April): Atlético Madrid vs Arsenal

The final takes place on 30 May 2026 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

Arsenal remain the tournament favourites at prediction markets — the semi-final path against Atlético is considered more navigable than the PSG vs Bayern side of the bracket. Bayern’s tournament odds have shortened sharply after their Bernabéu win.
